Types of Elastics

Class II Elastics

Run elastic from upper cuspid hook to the lower 1st or 2nd molar hook, as instructed. Every case is different, and the doctor will decide.

Class III Elastics Underbite

Run elastic from the lower cuspid hook to the upper 1st or 2nd molar hook as instructed. Every case is different, and the doctor will decide.

Triangle Elastics

Run the elastic from the lower cuspid to the upper 1st premolar and then to the upper 1st molar to form a triangle.

Box Elastics

Run elastic from upper cuspid hook to the lower 1st or 2nd molar hook, as instructed. Every case is different, and the doctor will decide.

Rapid Palatal Expander

Palatal expanders are used to make room for crowded teeth and/or broaden the smile. Their early use can often prevent the need to remove healthy adult teeth later. Expanders are ideally used between the ages of 8 and 10 when the mid-palatal suture is still unfused. Expanders can sometimes be used up until age 12 but in our opinion should be avoided thereafter.

Posterior Crossbite Elastic

The elastic is worn from the outside of the lower molar hook to the inside on the upper molar button. It may also run outside of upper molar to inside of the lower molar, and the doctor will decide.

Forsus Appliance-Class II Correction Device

The elastic is attached to four teeth, two on the top and two on the bottom to form a box. They are most commonly used in molar areas. Every case is different, and the doctor will decide.
